The Bajka family-name history.

The Bajka family name is traceable to the 12th Century however; the Family Tree only goes back to 1655. At this time the name appeared either in the form of Balika or Balyka.

The Balyka name’s spelling is the combination of two words: Yka is the old version of the name of the river Ika, which is on the modern map of Transylvania (Erdely), in the Csernaton Region. Bal is a common word meaning “left”. The group of people who lived on the left bank of the Ika River and in the vicinity of the Yka castle acquired the name: Balyka. Sometimes in the 17th Century the “ly” (having the same sound as a “j”) have been substituted with a “j”, hence the Bajka name.

Just by coincidence the word bajka in the Slavic languages, has the meaning of fairytale, it has the same spelling as the Bajka name.

A Bajka családi név eredete visszavezethető a 12. századba. Jóllehet hogy a családfát csak 1655-ig tudjuk követni, amikor már a név megjelent, mint Balika avagy Balyka.

A Balyka szó két részből áll. Yka, az eredeti írott formája a mai Ika folyónak a neve, ami található Erdély térképén Csernátonban. A Bal pedig egy ma is ismeretes irány szó. Az Ika folyó bal partján és az Yka vár mellett letelepedett ember csoport neve lett Balyka. Valamikor a 17. Században az „ly” helyettesítve lett a „j”-el, aminek az eredménye a Bajka név.

Teljesen véletlen hogy a szláv nyelvekben található bajka szó, ami mesét jelent, ugyan úgy van betűzve.
